Welcome to my yoga for infertility article.
You might have read in other articles I have produced, about the virtues of yoga for pregnancy and also the benefits of yoga postures for conception. Having just briefly covered this topic as a by-product of other articles, I have been approached by a few people to cover this wonderful, spiritual exercise in a full article, under the title Yoga for Infertility. I’m always happy to please my regular readers, so here goes………
Within our physical body, lies our spiritual body and it is this which contains seven wheels of life, called chakras. These affect a person’s physical, spiritual and mental well-being. Hindus believe that these energy sources must be unblocked and free to transmit and receive energy via the universe (this includes people, nature, and even objects).
Unfortunately, things such as stress, fear and worry can disturb the flows of energy. Blocked chakras create an imbalance in the body and this, in turn, leads to disease and ailments – including infertility.
Benefits of Yoga for Infertility
Yoga does have all round health benefits, which are not appreciated by people who do not regularly practice it. Yoga benefits in the following ways :
- Tones muscles
- Aligns the body
- Improves blood circulation
- Increases physical energy
- Improves stamina
- Provides calming meditation and relaxation (important as stress is a fertility inhibitor)
For many, they may ‘try it out’ but find the postures difficult or it ‘gives them aches’. But what you need to understand is that you can pick up the benefits of yoga surprisingly quickly and any aches you do initially get are quickly overcome as your core strength improves.
And remember, ultimately you will be reducing stress which, in turn, will correct the imbalance of your hormones, and this will go a very long way to helping you to conceive a child. Is THAT worth it ? Only you can answer that question.

The Medical Studies
So where have these ideas of yoga for infertility originated from ? Is there any evidence to back up this information ? Well yes, there have been a number of clinical studies undertaken over the years.
Research at the Harvard Medical School proved that yoga does work for infertility. One program of a 10 week mind & body course showed that more than half of the women who were seen as medically infertile, conceived a child within a year.
Further studies elsewhere have confirmed that yoga exercise can lower cortisol (a stress hormone) and this is known to cause infertility.
Worry and depression are known to cause below par levels of gamma amino butyric acid (GABA). Again, there is proof that yoga can increase this which will, ultimately, increase overall well-being, including your mood, and these will again have a knock-on effect onto your chances of conceiving a baby.
Yoga for Infertility : Recommendations
There are plenty of yoga for infertility products on the market and even local yoga classes or yoga schools that you can attend – or you may even want to consider a yoga retreat. However, the top yoga for infertility product that gets my seal of approval is Restoring Fertility by Drs. Brandon Horn, PhD, LAc (FABORM) and Wendy Yu PhD(c), LAc (FABORM).
The reason that this double DVD package ticks all of my boxes because it actually has different yoga sets (four in total) for the different phases of your ovulation cycle. This is a major plus on other similar products which are just standard yoga poses, with little or no regard as to where your body is in its menstrual cycle. In fact, demontrated in the DVDs are specific yoga postures for infertility (although there is no reason why your whole family can’t get involved).
And unlike other exercises, all you need is a yoga mat !!
At time of this recommendation it has received some excellent reviews on Amazon (so don’t just take my word for it) : Customer Reviews
I’ll let you go to Amazon directly to actually read the feedback…..but I can tell you now, the reviews are very positive and it also comes with my highest recommendation.
