Thank you for viewing my starter tips page on how to get pregnant with a boy. This is the sister (okay brother) page to my how to get pregnant with a girl page.
Of course, most prospective parents are more than happy to leave the sex of their child to chance and would not even consider trying to influence the decision. However, I know that in some cases there is a real yearning for a little ‘James’ as opposed to a little ‘Jane’.
There are many families throughout the world trying to give birth to males, for many different reasons. Some say that they feel safer bringing up a male in today’s rough and tumble world, whilst in certain areas of the world baby boys are preferred to preserve family names or because they is a need to maintain family businesses.
There might also be a need to avoid having a girl to avoid a disease that might only run in the girl line. Or maybe you already have a couple of boys and want to balance out your family.
Whatever your reason for trying to get pregnant with a boy, I hope this page is the start of a journey, which will ultimately lead you to the success you crave.

My Search for the Truth
Whilst researching this topic, it did not take me long to realise that there is, unfortunately, quite a lot of poorly written material on the internet – based mainly on old wives tales and very little information based on scientific fact. In fact, articles on the subject were big in number, but little in substance.
I then turned to Amazon.com and was disappointed to see just two available books on how to give birth to a boy – one of which had been written as far back as 1995 and had received very poor ratings, the other had received better ratings, but again had been published six years ago – time moves quickly in the medical world.
Through a support group set up for moms who were trying to get pregnant, I found out about two resources, which had generated quite a bit of interest and had reported success (more about those later).
Can You Really Influence the Gender of Your Child ?
Well it would certainly appear so. Clearly, I would be in breach of copy-write if I laid out here word-for-word what the books revealed.
However, I can give you some useful safe starter tips, to set you on the right track in getting pregnant with a boy.
How To Get Pregnant With A Boy – 5 Starter Tips
Okay, let’s get straight into it with some tips that will help you focus the mind and, hopefully, increase your understanding about trying to get pregnant with a boy.
Tip No. 1 – What Goes In Influences What Comes Out
For moms that are wondering how to conceive a boy, one of the first things you must consider is what you ingest. This is relevant both before and during conception and is vital not only your own health, but also the health of your baby.
It goes without saying (even though I’m about to say it), that you should avoid smoking and drinking of alcohol at this time, and also cut down on processed foods. You want things to be as natural as possible and that includes natural foods.
However, to give a helping hand to nature in trying to give birth to a boy, you will want to eat foods containing potassium and sodium for at least a month prior to trying to conceive – giving time for absorption into the body.
The recommended intake of potassium is 3.5gms daily and you want to be mindful of this as you don’t want to over-do it.
Consider food / meals containing :
- Fish : tuna and salmon
- Dried herbs
- Dried apricots, raisins, Dates and prunes
- Seeds: Pumpkin, sunflower, and flax
- Chocolate (every woman’s dream !!)
As mentioned previously, Sodium is another mineral that you need to be mindful of. Again, there are no shortage of foods which contain this – a selection of which include :
- Meat : Bacon, ham, corn beef, luncheon meats
- Fish : anchovies, smoked salmon,
- Products containing tomatoes e.g. tomato sauces & soups
- Broccoli, mushrooms and lentils Lima beans
There are many web-sites on-line where you can find recipes which complement the above ingredients – one of the best is www.allrecipes.com/Search/Ingredients.aspx. All you have to do is add some of the above ingredients in the boxes and hit search and you will be presented with recipes.
Of course it is important to have a mixed and varied diet whether you are trying to get pregnant with a boy or are currently in pregnancy. And when in doubt you should always seek the advice of your doctor.
In order to increase your chances of giving birth to a boy, you need to understand your ovulation cycle. I would recommend the following course of action :
- Check and test your ovulation dates over 100 days (covering just over 3 months)
- Ensure that the cycle is consistent
- Use our recommended Clearblue Ovulation Test, which can be purchased at Amazon.com
- Use an on-line ovulation calculator, such as that found at www.ovulation-calendar.net
So, what’s the purpose of that ? Well, the male Y chromosome carrying sperm dies quickly. Therefore to give yourself the best chance of conceiving a boy it is important to have sex one day prior to ovulation and then during ovulation. That’s why you need to keep a record of what’s happening inside of you.
Tip No. 3 – One For the Guys
The potential father has an important role to play in the successful conception of a boy as well. He needs to ensure that his sperm count is as high as possible (this increases the chances of having a little boy). That means keeping the testicles as cool as possible – so no tight fitting underwear and no hot baths just prior to intercourse.
Tip No. 4 – Best Position to Get Pregnant With A Boy
There is some debate as to whether this next tip works, or not. However the science does seem to back this up. As mentioned above, the male sperm die quicker than the female sperm. It therefore stands to reason that the deeper the penetration during sex, the more of a head start you can give the sperm and, it follows, the more of a chance that more male ones will still be alive at ovulation.
One of the books I mention below (Plan My Baby) does go into graphic detail regarding the best positions to have sex.
Some of you might recognize that much of what I have described above is based on the work done by Landrum B Shettles in the 1960’s (called the Shettles method), and this has helped many wannabe moms in the past 40+ years.
For updated information, I highly recommend two outstanding home-courses……………….
Tip No. 5 – Further Resources
The above tips are meant to serve as an introduction to helping parents, but just working with those alone might not be enough to guarantee that you will conceive a boy. As mentioned previously, moms in the support group had viewed a variety of ‘how to get pregnant with a boy’ type of material. The two most popular are listed below and are both highly recommended.
Plan My Baby (Prince or Princess)
This is a course by Alicia Pennington, which looks at ways to conceive a boy or a girl – it comes with some nice little bonuses and has medical profession backing.
How to get Pregnant with a Boy
This is a course by Penny Brown, which focuses on advice for those just trying to get pregnant with a boy. Again, there are some relevent bonuses books that come with the main guide.
I’m not a believer in trying to force any particular product on anyone and I always try to provide alternatives. All I would say that if you are serious about trying to get pregnant with a particular gender of baby then you do need to read something like the recommendations I have high-lighted below. Otherwise you could be leaving it to chance.
I have reviewed both of these courses at the following links. Alternatively, you might just want to go straight through to the official websites by clicking on the books below.
Whichever direction you take, I thank you for taking time in reading this material and I wish you well on your journey in trying to get pregnant with a boy.
